The Tenfold Infinite Flying Heavenly God King is also known as “The Great Holy God King of Flying Heaven” or “The Supreme True Flying Heavenly God King of Tenfold Realization of Immortality and Boundless Greatness”. He is the core deity group of the Lingbao Sect of Taoism, originating from the “Yuan Shi Wumian Shangpin Miao Jing”. He is formed by the manifestation of the divided forms of the Tao炁 and is in charge of ten directions and three realms， presiding over the ascension of people to immortality， recording merits and demerits， and governing the cycle of life and death.
Core composition and jurisdiction
Divided into ten positions， each governing one of the celestial worlds in the east， south， west， north， northeast， southeast， southwest， northwest， above， and below. They are collectively called “The Great Sage of Longevity and Immortal Guidance”.
Eastern to Western， and the four corners’ God Kings: They are in charge of the corresponding celestial worlds， such as the east governing the An Da Tang Xiang Da Gan Nian Xian world， the south governing the Wan Li Cheng Da Gan Qiian Xian world， etc.
The God King above： He governs the celestial beings in the Yuanzhuo Yu Jing and presides over the celestial order.
The God King below： He oversees the Yigeng Luo Feng， guides the people in the underworld， and governs the descent and liberation of the underworld deities， such as the Five Great Kings of the Five Mountains and the Five Emperors of the Five Palaces， and presides over the cycle of life and death.
Core functions
Recording and guiding： He is in charge of the records of merits and demerits in the three realms， reviews the merits of practitioners， determines the grade of ascension to immortality， and “refines and educates people” during the time of calamity to help them achieve enlightenment and become true.
Life and death summary： He is in charge of the yin-yang life and death seals and symbols， governs the celestial and underworld realms， summarizes the cycle of life and death， and protects the practitioners from being trapped in the three realms.
Guarding the scriptures and protecting： In the rituals， reciting the “Guiding People Scripture” can summon its arrival， protect the practitioners from entering the immortal register， ascend to the nine palaces， and protect the practitioners from disasters and misfortunes. It symbolizes “the Tao pervades everywhere， guiding ten directions”， and is often used as a spiritual symbol for protecting ascension， eliminating disasters， and overcoming misfortunes， used in talismans， rituals， and protective accessories， meaning ten directions’ protection and long life and immortality.
